چکیده

Zebrafish (Danio rerio) has been a prominent model vertebrate in a variety of biological disciplines. Substantial information gathered from developmental and genetic research, together with near-completion of the zebrafish genome project, has placed zebrafish in an attractive position for use as a toxicological model. Although still in its infancy, there is a clear potential for zebrafish to provide valuable new insights into chemical toxicity, drug discovery, and human disease using recent advances in forward and reverse genetic techniques coupled with large-scale, highthroughput screening. Here we present an overview of the rapidly increasing use of zebrafish in toxicology. Advantages of the zebrafish both in identifying endpoints of toxicity and in elucidating mechanisms of toxicity are highlighted.

A review of the performance of zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model organism in nanotoxicological research and its differences with other animal models

Today, nanotechnology is recognized as one of the leading sciences in the world, which manipulates atoms and molecules in order to produce valuable products. Extensive use of nanomaterials in various industrial sectors has increased the possibility of their diffusion in water bodies and the environment. Therefore, the study of toxicity of these substances is considered as one of the research ne...

Zebrafish as a Model for Developmental Neurotoxicity Assessment: The Application of the Zebrafish in Defining the Effects of Arsenic, Methylmercury, or Lead on Early Neurodevelopment

Developmental exposure to neurotoxic chemicals presents significant health concerns because of the vulnerability of the developing central nervous system (CNS) and the immature brain barrier. To date, a short list of chemicals including some metals have been identified as known developmental neurotoxicants; however, there are still numerous chemicals that remain to be evaluated for their potent...

Review of the Ethical and Technical Principles of Working with Zebrafish as a Species of the Biological Model in Medical Science Studies

The Zebrafish is a preeminent model organism that, with its most prominent features, has expanded the boundaries of science in many disciplines. Characteristics of this small freshwater fish, with the help of biologists, showed that it has a highly comparable genetic with mammals such as mice and rats. For example, the emergence of new and efficient methods for duplicating and editing the genom...

Zebrafish as model organism for drug discovery and toxicity testing: A review

Accepted: 01/09/2014 Abstract The zebrafish (Danio rerio) has become a widely used vertebrate model organism for drug discovery because of its high fecundity, transparent embryos and larvae, morphological and physiological similarity to mammals, allowing in vivo analysis of embryogenesis and organogenesis combined with ease of use and low cost. This review contain background on zebrafish as mod...
